Seeking the Least, the Lost, the Last

by Dave Quintana - Servants of the Word

I forget who I first heard describe our call as Christians as "seeking the least, the lost, the last," but it sure resonated with me. We're to be always on the lookout for those in need, always looking to help others find their way, always looking out for others that no one else looks out for. So many of those that we meet wander aimlessly through life, having lost their sense of direction, having lost their bearings and no longer knowing which direction is "true north". As Christians, we are ambassadors for Christ. We are his representatives, those entrusted with the sacred responsibility of conducting his governmental affairs here on earth. We are, therefore, always on duty. We are to speak his word in season and out of season. Let's not be the type of Christian who ought to carry around with us those bumper-stickers popular a while ago, "Don't follow me, I'm lost too!"

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2Cor 5:18-20 RSV
