Freedom from Other Things for the Sake of the Lord and his Service

by Dave Quintana - Servants of the Word

While living in the US I had the blessing to live and work closely with people from all over the world. It was always entertaining taking them shopping for the first time, and watching them get overwhelmed by the size of everything, by the sheer quantity of everything, and by the multitudinous choices that they always had to make. It can be paralyzing at times. SW want to be free to serve God and embrace whatever service he entrusts to us. To be free for God it is also essential that we are free from other things. We want nothing to "hold us back", to "weigh us down", or to "hinder us" in any way. What freedom! Oh the blessing to have said "Yes!" to the Lord, to have said "No!" to other things, and thus to be free!

And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Lk 12:29-31 NIV
