Altars

Did you ever notice how frequently altars are built in the Old Testament? Do you suppose maybe it has to do with a recognition that in all times, in all circumstances God deserves our worship? And that it is likewise fitting at all times and in all circumstances to be offering sacrifices to him? I would like my life to be marked by altars as well. Wherever I go, whatever I do—may I never be far from a place set aside for worship of God and making sacrifices to him.

Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar …. Then the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. Gen 8:20; 12:7
